It was wet and cool outside at the Wildog Winery but it was warm and friendly inside for our biannual reunion. There was an attendance of 37 and apologies from another 27 people, so interest in our get togethers is certainly alive and well.

John and Mavis Gallienne sent out all the invitations and recorded the replies, Max Cameron and Doug Armour, gave out the name tags and collected the money.

Kevin Dale hosted proceedings and welcomed everyone. Kevin and Alison Thomson and Cliff & June Wilkinson were down from Queensland. John Gallienne read out the apologies which included 8 people who were holidaying in New Zealand.

Our condolences to the Coutts family on the recent passing of Jan Coutts. She had been ill for some time. We also noted that past Chapter President Mick Daniels had a stroke a few weeks ago and is expected to make a good recovery.

We enjoyed a three course luncheon and some of the members were interviewed. Brian Hopkins has semi-retired as proprietor of the Warragul Gazette but said that staff shortages seemed to keep bringing him back into the fold. He is doing some travelling and has been a regular visitor to South Africa over the years. His Favourite game park is the Londilozi Game reserve up near Kruger park. Last year he joined Kevin Dale,s Test cricket Supporter tour in March 2014 in Cape Town with his two brother’s Drew and Phil.

Kevin Thomson and Alison have been living at Noosa Waters for quite a few years and also have an apartment in Brighton and commute in between. They are travelling overseas regularly and recently cruised around the Kimberly’s on the True North ship which they thoroughly recommend.

Cam Algie travelled up from Hawthorn and explained that he is working part time at Vision Australia headquarters in Hawthorn. He is involved in the peer support area. Cam studied Law as an adult student with a vision impediment and still has limited eye sight. For the past 35 years he has had an annual trip to Germany for a brine treatment for his eyes and believes that is the reason he still has partial eye sight
Peter Saunders is still practising as a lawyer in Warragul (he reckons he will get the hang of it one day) He recounted his time in Jaycees when the Chapter was winning National Debating titles and enjoyed a high profile in the local community and WASon the National stage as a high achieving Jaycee chapter.

Chris Morris was very entertaining in telling us that he now the national President of the Left Handed golfers organisation. They look down on people who can play both handed and said the cause is really for the true lefties who represent about !0% of all golfers. He also had a chat about the former Test Cricketer Arthur Morris who is relative and Chris revealed that he was in possession on an authentic Baggy Green cap that used to belong to Bert Oldfield.

Mavis Gallienne then interviewed Marlene Marriott who was a member of the Jaycettes, she spoke about receiving two Cocklear implants a few years ago and difference that has made. Marlene and Geoff are living in Shady Creek and the farm is now leased out.

We noted that Bill Pyle received an OBE since we last met (Over Bloody Eighty)

We all enjoyed a pleasant three course meal and agreed to meet again in two years’ time in March 2017.

Kind Regards
Kevin Dale
